An Interview on the Ethics of Work, Honesty and, integrity
I interviewed James Kalu, a 30years old Banker in work ethics, integrity, and honesty in the banking industry. I have known him for over 17years. His uprightness and integrity right from our high school days tickle my fancy. He currently holds a BSc-MEngr, MSc Engr. Mgt. He has 7years of working experience in Abia state, Nigeria.
He is a brilliant and highly talented young man who taught himself web development and also taking cyber security courses online. He has experience working as a freelancing developer at some point.
Question: What does honesty mean in your profession?
Response: Honesty is the quality of being truthful. An example of honesty is telling the truth even after doing something wrong.
Question: What does it mean to have a strong work ethic?
Response: Work ethic is a set of values based on the ideals of discipline and hard work. Having said that to, have a strong work ethic includes:
a. Put the company first.
b. Manage your time wisely.
c. Be honest.
d. Maintain a balanced and consistent performance in your work.
e. Always show respect.
f. Follow the rules.
g. Work with others.
h. Stay fit and healthy. etc
Question: Have you ever done anything dishonest at work?
Response: No
Question: Do you know anyone else who has ever done something dishonest? What happened, and how did people find out?
Response: YES, When the auditors found out that the books were out of balance, and due to his actions that weren’t in line with stated policies and procedures. He got fired because he stole money from the bank.
Question: What inspired you to be honest?
Response: Hunger for success inspires me to be honest!
Question: Will you say you made the right choice, to be honest?
Response: Yes, honesty always pays!
Question: Have you ever regretted being honest?
Response: No. I have no regret whatsoever.
Question: Do you think it pays to be honest?
Response: History has shown that honesty pays!
In conclusion, I learned that honesty and good work ethics in the workplace are great virtues one should possess. Code of conduct in the workplace help to enforce it. As a person, I need to be painfully honest at all times, irrespective of the cost. It takes great courage to do so.
